This procedure describes how to unpack and install the
The installation follows this flow:
You can inspect the procedure for DOORS® Client Installation which is a related activity.
Locate the appropriate compressed ZIP installer image in your file system.
In the following figure, a number of these compressed files has been downloaded from the IBM support site. The ratlDOORS_Server_9-5-0-1_Windows.zip file has been selected.
As shown below, the unpackaging procedure yielded the setup.exe file which is suitable for installations on Windows client systems.
Note: Many of the other ZIP files that are part of the DOORS® distribution use the exact same setup.exe file name for their installers. You should rename the file meaningfully.
A suggested name of DOORS-server-9-5-0-1-windows-setup.exe not only conveys the purpose of the file, but using the minus sign instead of underscores and dots even eases typing (fewer shift keys).
Locate and double-click the DOORS® Server installer on the desired host. This will launch the app which is a Windows InstallShield Wizard-type program.
Many Windows 7 and Windows 2008 Server systems are setup with permissions that behave as shown below. You must allow the installer to run by pressing the Yes button.
Note: You must have sufficient access rights to perform this operation. The DOORS® Database Server will be registered as a service on this host and you must be permitted to do it or the installation will fail.
The Welcome Page for the installer is presented when the utility is ready to run as seen in the following figure.
As highlighted, the I Accept ratio button has been selected and you are ready to proceed.
Note: If you do not accept the End User License Agreement then the Next button will not become active and you cannot proceed with installation.
First press the radio button next to I Accept.
Then press the Next button to proceed with installation.
You can select the port on which this DOORS® Database Server will listen to service the DOORS® Clients.
Note: The default port 36677 was selected by looking at a telephone keypad and spelling DOORS.
You can also select the desired directory where DOORS® will be stored.
Note: I HIGHLY RECOMMEND separating the directory containing your data from the DOORS® installation folder.
As shown in the figure, the Browse button allows you to select a different location for the DOORS® data.
As shown below, the E: disk drive has been designated to hold the DOORS® data and the DOORS-DB folder has been created to contain the database information.
Press the OK button to complete this selection.
Following the changes, the DOORS® Database Server Settings window reflects your selections.
Press the Next button to proceed.
The next figure shows a summary of the choices you made using this Wizard.
The DOORS® Database Server installation is ready to proceed.
Press the Install button to proceed.
As seen in the following figure, the installation has completed successfully.
Press the Finish button to complete this process and dismiss the installation Wizard.
If you access the Windows services.msi utility you can inspect the list of programs that will be run as services. Among them you'll find the DOORS DB Server 9.5 listed with Automatic settings. It will likely be running.
This completes the description of an installation of the DOORS® Datase Server.
