This procedure describes how to unpack and install the IBM Rational® DOORS® Database Server application on a Windows 7 Client system.

The installation follows this flow:

  • Locate and unpack the compressed ZIP installer image for your Windows client.
  • Execute the Window Install Shield Installer file
  • Accept the End User License Agreement (EULA)
  • Select The port number destination folder for the data managed by the DOORS® Database Server
  • Complete the installation
  • Review Services listing to inspect the launch of the DOORS® Database Server
  • You can inspect the procedure for DOORS® Client Installation which is a related activity.

Preparing to Install the DOORS® Database Server

Locate the appropriate compressed ZIP installer image in your file system.

In the following figure, a number of these compressed files has been downloaded from the IBM support site. The ratlDOORS_Server_9-5-0-1_Windows.zip file has been selected.

As shown below, the unpackaging procedure yielded the setup.exe file which is suitable for installations on Windows client systems.

Note: Many of the other ZIP files that are part of the DOORS® distribution use the exact same setup.exe file name for their installers. You should rename the file meaningfully.

A suggested name of DOORS-server-9-5-0-1-windows-setup.exe not only conveys the purpose of the file, but using the minus sign instead of underscores and dots even eases typing (fewer shift keys).
